The Fish House

We had a low key weekend. Dee did not feel well on Sunday and we did not go to church. First time in twenty something years I can remember staying home just the two of us.I play hookie some time , but he never does!We did watch the service on tv ,just so you know I didn't miss getting the preachers message for the week..

I am busy preparing for Jeane Carroll and six of friends to come home for the Peanut Festival. I have gone and bought all new towels, changed all the shower liners, planned my menu's and am throwing out stuff like crazy. It is amazing what one woman can do if she knows she has a little time before her guests arrive. Who knows..I might redecorate a room by the time they get here on Friday.

I was blogging and I ran across a blog about Fish camps and it just flooded my mind with memories. We grew up going to "Fish Camps". These were restaurants that specialized in fried fish. They are concrete block shells with picnic table style seating. I still try and get to one every time I get around Mississippi. The Old Watermill was our favorite and Macs Fish camp was also one we went to. You can eat all the catfish , hush puppies, slaw, onion slices, and french fries you want for a bargain price. Now, there is nothing better tasting than a good piece of fried catfish. I am not talking about fillets either..I am talking the whole thing ,tail and all.It is finger licking good and I think I might need to go to Mississippi soon to just check it out again. Our family always went when we had out of town visitor's. I have this yankee aunt and her husband who lived to visit the fish house. We had some good times at the fish house and always ran into other families we knew. You did not have to dress for dinner. Anyway you looked was fine for this place. The waitress I remember had four children and she could get the stuff to us faster than lightening. She kept it coming too. I bet she is a great grandmother now and frying up the stuff for her own family. I know it's not good for you but back then we didn't know it. I still go now that I am educated on the stuff I should be eating. My girls say I need to quit writing about food but it makes me real happy. See you at The old Watermill!Loving you all..Robin Are there any any LA? I have never seen or heard about one.

Hi Robin,
I loved this one-brought back wonderful memories of eating thre with your precious Mama and Robert.
I just got back from a wonderful weekend serving on Cursillo staff at Camp Beckwith. I had 5 of the most precious "pilgrims" at my table. It was so good for me and my growth as a Christian. I had no time to call or check in with the girls, barely any time to sleep. I found out when I arrived that I had to give a talk, but with the Holy Spirit and "a cloud of witnesses" I was able to write it and give it. I keep reading the email from Ken and Becky and it gave me such strength!
I hope that Dee is feeling better!
We had all you can eat fried oysters, shrimp, fish and huspuppies Sat night as our gift to the pilgrims-it was delicious. I had to stand for the next hour during our meeting I ate so much-but it was delicious!
Loved the memories, Karen
