The Smells of Camp

Ok...I am not the mother of boys so I am not accustomed to boy smells..I have friends with boys and they tell me of the smells that accompany them..I have even smelled a few boys in my life and lets just say, it ain't pretty !

After all the years of Jeane Carroll going to camp, I still can't shake the camp smell..

It is an outdoor smell..mixed with a little mildew, add a few insects mixed with woods and the earth of Mentone and you have a CAMP SMELL ! It is on everything that she owns, even if she did not wear it, it has to washed and bounced and cleaned and I mean cleaned really good to get back to the original item she took to Camp.

Every mother that has sent a child to camp knows just what I am talking about..Most moms don't discuss smells , but you know me..I gonna delight in whatever it is I am doing and today it is washing camp clothes.

I can't say I don't like the smell, it reminds me of when she was little and how I was so happy to have her home after a month at camp. It reminds me of her first year as a counselor and how she was growing in the Lord and making lasting friendships and learning about the world. It is a happy smell that brings joy to me the few days it lingers in our home.

I hope there is never a year I don't get to smell the love of camp. I secretly hope she goes back to camp for many years. It is a place that I don't have to worry about her. I know she is in good hands and she is learning new things. She is learning to be a mom to fifth grade girls..she is learning to discipline herself and those she is in charge of. She reads at camp..Christan novels, self help books, God books, books that come alive in the darkness of rest time and late at night. Camp has been such a blessing to our entire family. I hope I get to send my little granddaughter to camp and then her mom can smell camp and have a daughter that is growing in the Lord and every year she comes home she is more independent and knows more about herself as the woman God made her to be.

Thanks Desoto for peppering us with the smells that have blessed our life..

Loving you all...Happy Smells...

Robin

I was just thinking last night- what will I do when LL and B want to go to camp- just like me to worry about things that are not anywhere close to happening, but you have helped me- put my mind at ease. Be prepaired for a call when the time comes! Love you!

I know it's nice to have Jeannie back. All the years of packing them up and making arrangements (sowing the seed) are now returning a bountiful harvest of spiritual maturity and beautiful memories! Good job Robin!
