Nothing Like Mississippi

Mississippi, I so miss it! My drive there for the wedding was a little like ,A Walk down Memory Lane ! I saw names of towns I have not thought about in years. I passed Eupora, which is a small sweet town where an old friend of mines people were from. You know what people means... This means their ROOTS are in Eupora. Everyone they know came from there. It is where you get your innards..Your gut feelings and reactions to the world. It is what makes you ,You. If your mama was raised there, then more than likely your people were from there. You might have grown up in another town but your memories are linked in your celebrations and good times where your grandparents were raised and the hometown store is. It is Southern and that is what makes Mississippi so wonderful.

This brings me to Grenada. We stayed there so Jeane Carroll could hang out with her friends and because it was the only place within forty five minutes that had hot water( or so we heard!). Kyle and Clayton are from Grenada. Jeane Carroll had visited there on a camping trip, it was so cold they had to come indoors to get their blood flowing one weekend. She had told me all about Kyle and his family. Kyle is quite a card.He is polite, sweet, a gentleman,a Kappa Sig, and just a good ole Mississippi Boy! He loves the land his family lives on. His parents have been really nice to Jeane Carroll and they wanted me to meet them. We went to their family owned jewelry store and it was so much fun. They were just as charming as JC told me. I see why Kyle is such a nice young man.I could tell he was raised with those good Southern values that any Mississippi woman can see. The store was really nice and we were given the royal treatment. I was some mighty pretty diamonds and , you know ,I get weak in the knees when it comes to those precious stones. It was full of hometown people looking for anniversary and Christmas gifts.0The Rabbi came by and was looking for a gift for his wife of 20 something years. I bet they fixed him up with a gift that melted her heart. They called him Rabbi ,but he was really a Baptist preacher. Now, let me set the record straight..Jeane Carroll and Kyle are just friends..They did do a lot of hugging, but they told me they do that all the time! Those Southern girls can give and get a mighty fine HUG now and then.It was a lot of fun and I was glad to get to meet them. I was a Little strung out due to the Hampton Inn crisis..

That night after the wedding we met up at Jake and Rips..It's a famous eating place and had some good ole Mississippi catfish and hushpuppies. There, we were with Kyle and Clayton. I have been hearing about Clayton also. Clayton and Kyle are best friends and live together in Starkville. Clayton is from Grenada also.Clayton had celebrated Christmas with his dads side of the family that day and when he told me what all he had to eat at his grandmothers..I knew , right then and there...Clayton was from one of those kinds of families too. I mean, they had one fine southern spread. It would have put Paula Dean to shame. Clayton was as sweet and nice as Kyle and I will just say, my girl is picking the right kind of friends up there in Mississippi. They are both Baptist, Clayton's mama was playing for the church Christmas program on Sunday. Jeane Carroll went over to Claytons, but his mom was already in bed resting her fingers up for the playing and singing going on the next
morning. For the record..Clayton and Jeane Carroll are just friends also. Some fine boys..They charmed me like you have never seen.

Anyho, we had a good time and it was fun to put names with faces and get to be with them in their hometown.

So, loving all of you in Mississippi..Keep raising up those good boys that will make good Christan fathers and husbands one day.

Robin

I drove thru good ole Mississippi on my way to Memphis a couple of weekends ago and saw a sign that reminded me of you!...it said " Mississippi, The South's Warmest Welcome" I thought to myself, yeah that sounds like Mrs. Robin. Also, thought I would let you know one of my best friends/running partners up here in Bham is a girl from Miss. and a bulldog fan. You would like her. Anyway, check out my new blog when you get the chance
