A Tribute to my husbands mom from the eyes of a DIL !!!

Dee's mother , know to me as Mrs. Brookshire is a true Southern woman. She is one of a few left in the entire South. She is know as a LADY..I have never heard a "bad word " come from her lips. I wish I could say the same. She never talks about un -lady like things. My girls and I are very open to discussions about subject matter than is less than desirable, but Mrs. B. came from the old times and certain things remain unspeakable. She retains such dignity and is a role model for her family and grandchildren. I also have never been served an alcoholic drink in her home. Drinking is something she just does not partake in although she has become more tolerant with it as the grandchildren have gotten older. To think of the things she has seen in her lifetime amaze me. She is STRONG...She has been through some big stuff but held her head high and kept praying until she reunited a broken family. She did it quietly and it took many years but she worked hard and did a lot of forgiving and in the end she taught us all not to give up. She taught us that prayer works and she taught her SON that family is important.

She is a devoted member of her church. She doesn't need fancy Beth Moore Bible Studies. The pages of her favorite book are thin from reading them over and over. She still sits on the same pew at 15th avenue Baptist and has lots of young friends . She has seen many pastors come and go but she faithfully serves and has prayed for many that have been there over the years. She taught her son to put God first...She made him go to church at times..She wasn't scared that he didn't like it.She watched him fall away from his regular attendance during his college years but knew he would come back and serve his God and church. She let him see her pray and read her Bible and is an example. She did it quietly and didn't preach..But end the end he learned from her that God is first.

She helps other people..She has gone to the nursing home and visited friends of friends for as long as I can remember. She always has a little something in her bag that would cheer them up. Her little somethings have also blessed her family. It could be be something as big as a week of a baby nurse or a gift of her choice from one of her favorite catalogs. I talking good stuff...She has always picked out special things she hears us say we want during the year. She listens and then magically when you least expect , a gift you wanted is right before you.

She has Great Taste...She knows about crystal, china ,silver, and has the most beautiful clothes. She has maintained her figure and still looks so fab. I have only seen her in a swimsuit once ,but she is amazing when it comes to looking good. She looks the same as she did when I started dating her son. I am not kidding. Ageless...She still gets her hair done even when we go to the beach for a week.

Although we are very different , she loves me . That is big..I can be very unlovable at times but she has hung in there and taught me many things. Her strength and courage are remarkable.. Her son loves her with all his heart. They have a special relationship and they talk often. He loves taking care of her.So..Happy Mothers Day to Mrs. Brookshire, a mom to 4, a grandmother to 12 and 8 spouses , a great grandmother to 7 and two on the way. She NEVER forgets a birthday for any of us including the grandchildren 's spouses..Thanks for teaching your son many things that help to make us a Happy Family.

Happy Mothers Day to all of you out there who are moms. Hope you have a great day.

Loving you ..

Robin
