It was the most fun town..We got the dollar tour (not the fifty cent)! We saw where Sherry went to elementary and high school. I can just see her as a little girl running around ,having fun on the playground, making friends , sharing a secret. The buildings looked like they could hold a multitude of memories. Do you remember the feeling that you got when you went to your first day of high school? I still get that pit in my stomach from time to time. It was shear terror wondering if you were cute enough, if you had the right shade of lipstick ? Or,were you styling in your new pantsuit? Girl, that was back in the day when we first got to wear PANTS to school !
We toured the "new downtown". It was wonderful. The stores were full of fun stuff, The prices in the antique store were a steal. We got to see some art that Sherry's mother had displayed in an art gallery. It was pure nostalgia and history. We went to a museum and saw things that made up the town.
We toured the streets of the city, passing old homes that Sherry and her mom would tell us small details about. It was just like we were back in time.
We had a really upscale lunch at this great place downtown. I can't remember the name, but I DO remember the friend green tomato sandwich and sweet potato fries that warmed my palette.
The highlight of the day was visiting with Sherrry's parents home. I got tears in my eyes as we sat at their kitchen table having a big helping of strawberry shortcake that her mom had lovingly fixed for us. Her dad was so precious as he gave us his version of how they met as young adults. They flirted with one another. It was so precious.Their home with filled with photos of their children and grandchildren and paintings that Sherry's mom has done of family members. She got to tell us about some of them and who they were of. It was just nostalgic..The sum of it is, these are special people who you can tell have invested themselves in the lives of their children and their grandchildren. OK folks, isn't this what family is all about? We all have troubles, but if you love each other as a family should, these things are just little issues. We love and help one another through the hard times..It was a Great Day and one I won't forget for my lifetime..
Thanks for sharing Sherry. I loved being a part of who you are. And, her old pictures look just like her daughter who is about to become a bride herself. It was indeed a day to think about and share family ,friendship, and love.
Loving you all ..
Robin

Oh, I love days like that! Old towns have so many untold stories hidden away. Things that have been forgotten, but would be delighted to be told again! And I think some of the finest places to eat are downtown in old towns. I can think of 3 or 4 right off hand. Glad you had a plesant day with friend. Days like that just bind friends even closer.
I remember when we first could wear pants to school, too. Now, I'm just glad they wear clothes at all!
You got to meet Honey and Granddaddy?? I am so happy! We used to visit them in college and she would always make us some yummy cake, and we would eat the whole thing before we left.
