My daughter's have some amazing men in their lives. Lauren has been married to Jeff for seven years and Lucy has been married to Jason for three. Jeff is a little more used to us and Jason is still in the learning phase. Coming from a family of all girls was a little strange for them at first. .These are a few of the things they learned when they joined the family .
1. Birthday Celebrations- All birthdays start with breakfast in bed. The breakfast tray was a gift to all us girls when we married from Aunt Evelyn and her family. It was accompanied with delicate china that is used for such celebrations. You serve orange juice in a wine glass with strawberries, biscuits with jelly and lots of butter, and any other favorite you might desire. This must be done before you begin
your day. A crown has been used on some occasions if time permits.Pictures are taken during the event to document all stages of life.
2. Family Weddings and Funerals- You must give it your very best to attend all activities during these times. Spouses may or may not attend but you should TRY and attend all and as many as possible. This was set in stone by prior mothers on both sides of the family. No pressure..just be there!
3. Brookshire Beach Trip- this is an event we attend every year in later July. It is lots of fun. Each family has one night to cook a meal for all 30 something of us. It sometimes produces migraines and other medical illness. We want to have the best meal if possible so we STRESS over this for weeks on end.
4.Girl Babies- these little ones must wear pale colors, pink, blue, white, and ivory. Every and each item must be hand smocked and ironed . Store bought clothes are frowned upon until at least one year of age. Coats must be pink and you must have one on hand in case it turns cold(not often). We have lots of them and styles are still the same as when I was a little girl. White or ivory shoes only. Only children from the North wear black shoes. We prefer NO shoes until at least four years of age. Dirty feet look good on french hand sewn dresses.
5. Mexican Food- Our favorite is Mexican kitchen in Hattiesburg. It has opened and closed more times than we can count. I have been know to have black out spells from laughing so hard there. Jason was there to pick me up on my moms last trip to MK..Mother liked it but did not want anyone to know she would dine in such a dive but WE did not care.Good food is good food and there is no substitute when it comes to MK. We mourn when it closes for fall break.
6.Christmas Eve Dinner- It is ALWAYS the same , no matter where we are. We have beef tenderloin, potato casserole from Southern Sideboards, My green salad, asparagus, and rolls. Dessert can vary but the original meal is tradition. We always attend church in what ever city we might be in. For us that has been many different
places.I am always pouty on Christmas Eve because I long to be in Dothan with my immediate family. This has never happened and probably never will but a dream I will continue to have until death.
7.Christmas Gifts- They must be really good gifts..No appliances or things for the home unless you asked for it. Diamonds are always good for a big scream and fur coats bring on the same fun. Remember the year Dee gave me a make up case that was practical? I know none of us will ever forget the look on my face as I opened it with anticipation.
These are just a few of the things my sons in law put up with. They love me even when times get rough. I will say we have not always seen eye to eye on every matter but they are so precious and like to tease me a lot.The biggest thing is that they are crazy about my daughters. They are great husbands and fathers. Things are different in the 2000's with child raising. The daddies go to birthday parties and baby sit on girls night out. I love them for loving Lauren and Lucy. I will say, Lauren and Lucy are a lot more submissive that I am. It must be a Presbyterian thing...Just kidding. TO Jeff and Jason..Thanks for treating my girls like the queens they are. You love them like Christ loved the church. I am thankful you are both Christian husbands.Ya'll have set a good example for Jeane Carroll to find that Christan man that God intends her to be with for the rest of her life. Until then, we are loving each of you,...Robin

VERY CUTE!! I'm glad my husband loves me too! love you, LUCY
Ok this is so stinkin' funny. I might need to print it off... I laughed really hard about the handmade clothes, no black shoes and no shoes are preferred.... now I know why you and Dona get a long so well! If she was to write this... her's would say, "No shoes until you go to college" and "all children must never ever wear store bought clothes, ever" I'm glad you have such wonderful son-in-laws! They are blessed to have you too! :)
I had to come back because I was laughing outloud about this post again while unloading the dishwasher! I was thinking about how the Christmas after Justin and I got engaged how he bought me a pressure cooker and a case of canning jars... I thought I'd die! I was so in love I didn't care but my parents will never let him live it down. We have laughed so hard about it. I, of course, acted thrilled about the pressure cooker but was really thinking, "Is this what I'm in for?" Since then he has done better. I did get a bread machine one year and much to his disappointment I returned it to the store. He's learning... slowly but surely. I have to drop some serious hints around Christmas time! Maybe I should start buying my own Christmas presents and wrapping them and putting them under the tree! I would have loved that make-up case Dee gave you! :) It's not quite as "useful" as a pressure cooker or a bread machine!
Ok- this is great! I LOVE IT!! Your "rules" about the babies- pale color clothes, handmade and no shoe should be given to all southern mothers as they leave the hospital!!! I did notice that you did not mention baby boys- I'll take the liberty. Day gowns in white, mint, ivory or pale blue(with ecru tatting) until age 1. Then bubbles and aprons- all in soft colors- no red or dark green- no not even at Christmas. The no shoe rule applies to the boys too, until the go to school. And NO shorts on those cute legs until they go to school. Now, I know- the daddys aren't going to like this at all, but they are only babies for a short time, and they won't wear an apron to high school! I could go on and on, but I'll stop! Love You!
Hey Lucy!!!
How about your blog- the picture is cute- I guess it is worth 1000 words! But we still need some words on your blog!!!
